The land compromises of 2 football pitches and a small copse of trees. The reasons for the request from Belper Town Juniors is all about public liability and safety. The fields host around 300 visitors per week attending football matches. Part 1 - at the entrance to the field is a large Ash tree which recently had a large dead limb break off and destroyed some of the perimeter fencing. The committee state that last year, the growth on top of the crown was bare and showing early signs of die back and as a result are seeking authority to remove the tree. Part 2 - is in relation to a large Horse Chestnut and 2 Lime trees situated at the side of the football pitch which parents and visitors use daily to shade and get protection from the weather. Their request is to remove all three. All three trees have lots of deadwood & all have had large branches fall off in the last few months. We made a second visit recently prior to the application to examine all 3 trees and all show lots of new growth. The concern is for the safety of all children and parents, however, we have explained that removal may not be appropriate but, the following maintenance has been suggested: deadwood of all three trees, a reduction of 30% off the height of all three to take some of the height away and the removal of all the epicormic growth at the bottom of the 2 Lime trees. Part 3 - is in relation to a small area of trees which is a well used area for dog walkers. It is not an authorised footpath but all attempts to prevent dog walkers using the area has failed and the committee are concerned due to the state of the trees, that somebody will get injured and the club will be liable.
